In the highlight of Swedish Christmas, on the 24th of December, friends and families are celebrating … waiting for Santa to knock at the door with his sack of presents.
Just as “la Vigilia di Natale” in the south of Italy where, while waiting for Santa, we also eat, drink and celebrate.
(The same applies for New Year Eve).
Here are the images of a wonderful evening at the Swedish Embassy in Rome that have let us taste a very Swedish Christmas Bites, and the Saint Lucia and Christmas Carol by the Nordiska Musikgymnasiet Chorus from Stockholm
On the menu:
1. Janssons Frestelse: “Jansson’s temptation” a creamy potato, onion and fish gratin / “la Tentazione di Jansson” (un pasticcio di patate, cipolle e sarde al forno)
2. Köttbullar: Swedish meatballs / le polpettine di carne svedesi
3. Julskinka: Christmas ham / “prosciutto di Natale” (prosciutto al forno)
4. Glögg, pepparkakor e lussekatter: Mulled wine, gingersnaps and St. Lucia saffron buns / Vino caldo speziato (servito con mandorle e uvetta), biscotti di pan di zenzero e brioscine allo zafferano.
